Direct fire equipment is a viable alternative to electrical resistance equipment in many cases, and can be used to heat large vessels, drums, boilers, etc.
As the picture above illustrates, a vessel approximately 120 feet long and 10 feet in diameter is being heat-treated to 1200 degrees F using only four burners. The entire vellel is wrapped with insulation, thermo-couples are attached, and burners are installed in available mainways, and it is ready to heat. The project took just four days, much shorter and less expensive than if it had been completed in the field.
We offer two styles of burners. (1) Luminous flame oil burners, which are light, economical, and powerful. They use #2 diesel fuel and burn cleanly and dependable. Because fuel is readily available and set-up time is quick, this is a practical choice. (2) High Velocity gas systems, which are larger and even more powerful, and burn either natural gas or bottled LPG gas. These can be used not only for post-weld heat-treating, but are also perfect for large-scale refractory dry-outs or to cure applied coatings. The spent gas leaves no residue behind and the flame for the burner tip can be suppressed in a "flame tube." This introduces only hot air to the part being treated.
Directly fire equipment has many other uses as well, and ALL ARE SAFE AND EFFECTIVE. Each direct fire project is manned by experienced gas personnel. Additionally all projects include a detailed written procedure that outlines the scope, location of thermocouples, and recommended supports and instructions.
